SACRAMENTO, CA — In a recent article by The Hill titled “California Rep. Bera on rise of democratic socialism: ‘It’s about stopping Donald Trump,'” Congressman Ami Bera discussed the growing influence of democratic socialism within his party, characterizing it as part of the effort to oppose President Donald Trump.

Republican Congressional candidate Robb Tucker released the following statement in response:

“Congressman Bera’s comments are deeply troubling because they reveal exactly what is wrong with politics today. Instead of focusing on lowering costs, supporting local businesses, improving public safety, and making life better for the people he represents, he is excusing the rise of an ideology that has brought economic misery and government overreach wherever it has been put into practice.

Socialism is not a new or untested idea. It is an ideology with a long history of failure. Time and again, countries that have embraced socialist economic systems have experienced declining economic opportunity, government control over private enterprise, shortages, reduced individual freedoms, and lower standards of living. Rather than creating prosperity, socialism has too often produced dependence, stagnation, and suffering.

Whether Congressman Bera genuinely believes in the rise of democratic socialism or is simply saying what he thinks the most extreme wing of his party wants to hear, neither explanation should comfort the American people. A sitting member of Congress should be unequivocally rejecting socialism—not rationalizing its growing influence within his party.

I am calling on Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike to reject this dangerous rhetoric. This isn’t about party labels; it’s about protecting the American principles that have made our country the most prosperous nation in history. We should be fighting for greater opportunity, economic freedom, safer communities, and a better future for our children—not making excuses for an ideology whose record should serve as a warning, not a model.”

California’s 3rd Congressional District includes portions of Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado counties, as well as all of Nevada County.

Following a strong showing in the June primary, the Tucker campaign continues to build momentum heading into the general election by offering voters a clear choice between practical, results-oriented leadership and the failed ideas increasingly embraced by the political left.
